COURSE OVERVIEW

Sustainability & Energy Efficiency

Legal frameworks, efficiency metrics and technical measures for reducing energy and water use across data centres and telecom sites.

Overview

Rising energy costs, stricter regulation and AI-driven growth are reshaping the responsibilities of infrastructure teams. This course covers the regulatory context, efficiency metrics such as PUE, energy management systems and technical measures including heat reuse, with topics aligned with the key-performance-indicator parts of EN 50600.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Outline the regulatory and reporting landscape for energy use in Europe
  • Calculate and interpret efficiency metrics such as PUE and WUE
  • Establish energy measurement, monitoring and reporting
  • Evaluate technical options for power, cooling and IT efficiency
  • Assess heat reuse and renewable energy options
  • Develop an efficiency improvement roadmap

Module Outline

  1. Module 1: Sustainability context and regulation
  2. Module 2: Efficiency metrics and KPIs
  3. Module 3: Energy measurement and reporting
  4. Module 4: Cooling optimisation and free cooling
  5. Module 5: Power-chain efficiency
  6. Module 6: IT load, utilisation and AI growth
