COURSE OVERVIEW

Data Centre Design & Standards

Advanced design principles for resilient, efficient facilities, covering topics aligned with EN 50600, ISO/IEC 22237, TIA-942 and ANSI/BICSI 002.

Overview

This expert course examines how data centres are specified and designed. Participants work through design criteria, availability classes, power and cooling topologies, cabling architecture and documentation, using topics aligned with industry frameworks such as EN 50600, ISO/IEC 22237, TIA-942 and ANSI/BICSI 002. The course is about understanding and applying design principles; it does not lead to certification under any of these standards.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Translate business and availability requirements into design criteria
  • Compare power and cooling topologies and their maintainability
  • Apply availability-class thinking consistently across infrastructure disciplines
  • Design cabling architecture and spaces for growth and high density
  • Prepare and review design documentation, basis of design and commissioning plans
  • Identify the design trade-offs between cost, resilience and efficiency

Module Outline

  1. Module 1: Design process, stakeholders and basis of design
  2. Module 2: Overview of data centre standards and how they relate
  3. Module 3: Availability classes and concurrent maintainability
  4. Module 4: Power system topologies and sizing
  5. Module 5: Cooling system topologies, including liquid-cooling readiness
  6. Module 6: Telecommunications spaces and cabling architecture
  7. Module 7: Physical security and fire strategy
  8. Module 8: Energy efficiency by design
  9. Module 9: Commissioning and handover
  10. Module 10: Design review case study

The module outline is indicative and may be refined as materials are updated.
