COURSE OVERVIEW

Data Centre Infrastructure Specialist

TDI’s flagship programme: a complete, vendor-neutral view of data centre infrastructure, covering power, cooling, cabling, resilience, monitoring and operations.

Overview

The Data Centre Infrastructure Specialist is TDI’s flagship course. It gives technicians and engineers an integrated understanding of how a modern facility is designed, built and run, so that they can make sound decisions across disciplines. Topics are aligned with industry frameworks such as EN 50600, ISO/IEC 22237 and TIA-942, including availability classes, power distribution, environmental control and telecommunications cabling.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain availability and redundancy concepts and how availability classes are applied
  • Describe the end-to-end power chain from utility supply to rack, including UPS and generators
  • Compare air and liquid cooling approaches and assess airflow management
  • Plan structured cabling, pathways and meet-me room connectivity
  • Interpret monitoring data from BMS, EPMS and DCIM tools
  • Evaluate risks to uptime and recommend practical improvements
  • Communicate effectively between facilities, IT and customer teams

Module Outline

  1. Module 1: Data centre types, business models and service levels
  2. Module 2: Availability, redundancy and resilience concepts
  3. Module 3: Site selection, building and physical security
  4. Module 4: Electrical power distribution and backup power
  5. Module 5: Cooling systems, airflow management and environmental control
  6. Module 6: Telecommunications cabling, pathways and interconnection
  7. Module 7: Fire detection, suppression and life safety
  8. Module 8: Monitoring, BMS, EPMS and DCIM
  9. Module 9: Capacity planning and density trends
  10. Module 10: Operational resilience and continuous improvement

The module outline is indicative and may be refined as materials are updated.
