COURSE OVERVIEW

Structured Cabling & Fibre Termination

Hands-on cabling skills that data centre and telecom employers ask for: copper and fibre termination, testing, labelling and documentation.

Overview

Cabling skills are among the most requested for entry-level data centre and telecom roles. This course covers copper and fibre cabling systems, termination, MPO/LC connectivity, testing and documentation, with topics aligned with the cabling parts of EN 50600 and TIA-942. Optional live sessions demonstrate tools and techniques; practical tool work should be completed under supervision at your workplace or a training lab.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain structured cabling topologies and data centre cabling spaces
  • Terminate and test copper links to a documented standard
  • Describe singlemode and multimode fibre, connectors and MPO polarity
  • Inspect, clean and test fibre connections using power meters and OTDR basics
  • Route, dress and label cabling while respecting bend radius and pathways
  • Produce accurate test reports and as-built documentation

Module Outline

  1. Module 1: Structured cabling systems and data centre spaces
  2. Module 2: Copper cabling: categories, termination and testing
  3. Module 3: Fibre fundamentals: singlemode, multimode and loss
  4. Module 4: Connectors, MPO/MTP trunks and polarity
  5. Module 5: Fibre inspection and cleaning
  6. Module 6: Fusion splicing basics
  7. Module 7: Testing: OLTS, OTDR basics and certification reports
  8. Module 8: Pathways, containment, labelling and documentation

The module outline is indicative and may be refined as materials are updated.
